WAR MEMORIAL HALL

PLANS APPROVED BY THE GOVERNMENT TENDERS CALLED FOR THE BUILDING Mr Story, chairman of the Town Board, and the deputy-chairman, J. D. Swan went to Wellington last week, and interviewed the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Building Controller. The Minister passed the plans submitted for the new Memorial Hall as being eligible for a £ for £ subsidy. The Building Controller also passed the plans subject to a sligiht alteration in the construction of the ceiling truss, and advised that the Board could immediately call tenders. At a meeting of the Town Board, on August 29, the acting Town Clerk was instructed to call for tenders in the New Zealand "Herald," the "Waikato Times," the "Rotorua Post," the "Napier Daily Telegraph," the "Taumarunui Press," and the "Taupo Times," to close on September 20, at the Town Board office. The plans for the new hall will be published in niext week's issue of the Times. Taupo Dramatic Club \A public meeting will be held in Rickit's Hall on Thursday, September 4, at 8 p.m. of all those interested in forming* a Dramatic Society. If the society is formed the British Drama Council of Wellington is prepared to grant a subsidy of £50 towards the expenses of engaging a producer for the first performance of the new society. All residents are asked to attend the inaugural meeting.

R.S.A. SUPPORT U N ANIMDU SLY ENDORSED BY LARGE MEETING At an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Taupo' R.S.A. on Friday, August 29, called for the purpose of discussing the War Memorial Hall and general matters, 41 members were present out of a total financial membership' of 71. There was a full and geperal discussion on many matters concerning the R.S.A. The following resolutions were moved: — That the R.S.A. were behind and would give their whole-hearted support towards the building of the Memorial Hall, and that they would- I all work for it to the best of their afcility. This was carried tmanimously.

Another Resolution moved was to the effect that the R.S.A. disasociates itself from anonymous poetry, letters, etc. This was also carried unanimously. The suggestion that there was a split, or would be a split in the Taupo R.S.A., was strenuously denied. The R.S.A. also support the idea of a WORKING BEE to put in foundations of the Hall, and members present promised to leave their names at IMcLean's Store, advising what particular work they were prepared to do and the time and days they would be available. It was the general opinion of those present that the meeting was the most representative that the R.S.A. had ever held in Taupo.

The Fun Doctors. Mr E. Marsden reports that his team of Fun Doctors is complete with six good men, all with capable entertainment ability. He purposes getting down to rehearsals immediately in preparation for a igrand opening, about early November; this one in aid of essential gear, including loud speaker system and dress.
