RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the committee of the Taupo Ratepayers' Association was held at Mr Tei Pearae s on Wednesday, August 13. Mr Birnie chairman opened the meeting, and was welcomed back to Taupo by all present. Imformatiort Bureau Mr Mervyn Svenson was present by invitation, to discuss the pro's and con's of the establishment of an Information Bureau in Taupo. He produced several very interesting pamphlets issued by other holiday i resorts in New Zealand, and gave some of his ideas on advertising Taupo's many attractions so as to encourage more visitors and holiday makers. He also outlined briefly his plans for a general information service, designed to give visitors directions as to accommodation. sites to visit, bus time-tables, houses to rent, etc. The committee unanimously agreed to assist Mr Svenson in every way possible, and to give him active assistance through the Tourist Department. Children s Play ground Members present agreed to meet the Businessmen's Association in a Working Bee to erect a fence round the site, on Thursd&y, August 14th. Mr J. Birnie informed the Committee that he had a further sum in hand towards the Playground. Memorial Hall. Mr R. Sinclair tendered his resignation as a delegate to the Executive of the Taupo War iMemorial Association. This was accepted with regTet. Colonel Barton was appointed to fill the vacancy. The question of raising our target of £2CO was discussed at some length and it was proposed to organise a door-to-door canvass for funds, immediately after confirmation from the Organiser that no other Organisation will be raising funds in similar fashion. After a general discussion Mr Birnie declared the meeting closed, with expression of thanks to Mr T. Pearse for his hospitality.
