Executive Committee In Action TARGET : £4000 — "A HALL BY CHRISTMAS" The Taupo War Memorial Hall Campaign has now been launched in real earnest. The Executive Committee is in action, and the general programme of activities outlined.
War Memorial Association Holds Executive Meeting The first meeting' of the Executive Committee of the Taupo War Memorial Hall Association was held at Rickit's Hall on Friday, August 1st, 1952. Present: Deputy chairman, Miss Wehringo; joint treasurers, Mr E. Wright and Mr B. Armstrong; secr^tary, Mrs S'ally Kent; orgamser, CoL J. D. Swan; Mrs Clark Vedder, representing the Taupo Branch of the Labour Party; Mr Ian Logan, representing the Businessmen's Association; Mr R. Sinclair, representing the Ratepayers' Association. Apologies were received from the Women's Institute, and advice that delegates had not yet been nominated to represent the Gymkhana Club, the Motor Boat Association and the Maori People. . Fund For Working Expenses It was pointed out by the organiser that although there was over £4000 in the R.S.A. Memorial Hall Fund, and certain monies were coming in by way of subscription through the "Taupo Times," the War Memorial Association itself had no funds. As the executive must have a fund from which to pay expenses of stationery, advertising, etc., it was resolved that the representative of the Businessmen's Association should suggest to his association that they approach the businessmen of the town to subscribe to an expenses fund, and that the various donations should be more or less in line with the list as submitted by the organiser. Raismg of £4000 The organiser pointed out that the £4000 required should be raised between now and the 3rd January, 1953, and that the people of Taupo should endeavour to raise £2000 of this by the 18th December, which is £100 a week for 20 weeks. The remaining £2000 to be raised in the 15 days between 18 th December to 3rd January, 1153, this being at the rate of £133 a day. After some di&cassi »»i if was agreed to recommend to ail thsfc they should all work for and in conjunction wiih the Memorial Hall Association, because it was felt that it wouid not be in the interest of the building fund if individual organisations were rimning counter attractions. "Targets" It was carried unanimously that all the organisations represented at the general meeting should be given a target of the amount of money they . are expected to raise, and that each organisation should run and control their own efforts, the organiser advising that he was prepared, on the request of any organisation, to assist them in their money raising efforts. The executive approved the targets for the various organisations, which would result in a total of £2000 being raised. Programme: The organiser suggested the following programme for the period between the 18th December, 1952 and 3rd January, 1953, subject to the hall being built, and subject to alterations regarding- days and the neeessary co-operation from the various organisations concerned.
