TAUPO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General meeting of the Taupo Horticultural and Beautifying society was held in Rickit's Hall on July 24, at 10.45 a.m. The business of the meeting was to receive the report and statement of receipts of expenditure, and to elect officers for the ensuring year. The Annual Report The retiring president (Mr J. D. Swan) reporting on the society's activities over the last year, said: "The society has now been in existance for three years and as an experiment we are holding this our third annual general meeting in the morning instead of the evening as heretofore. * The past year is the first in which the society has held only one show. It was intended to hold a summer show, the scheduie was printed and the date fixed. Owing, however, to a late and very baa season the fixture was cancelled, which cancellation naturally reduced our cash foalance at the end of the financial year. "The financial members for the year ending March 31, 1952, were 123, which shows a decrease of 24 as against the previous year. The drop in financial members is no doubt partly caused by no summer show being held, because in the past we have found that members who overlooked their subscriptions at the begining of the year paid their dues at the summer show. "The balance sheet shows that the society ended the financial year with a cash surplus of £25/10/2, During the year the society purchased new vases to the value of £27/3/6, and black Italian cloth to the value of £12, which were intended to be used at the summer shcfw; also, prizes to the value of £6/15/5 for that show. So, at the 31st of March, 1952, your society had assets to the approximate value of £104, plus £25/10/2 cash. "Challenge trophies as follows were competed for: — The Taupo Horticultural Challenge Cup, won by Mr N. Stephenson. Dr H. W. Thomas Trophy, won by Mr N. Stephenson. ijlrs Alexander^ Trophy, won by Mrs Terry Kent. Mrs F. Coulson, Putaruru, won the bronze medal of the National Daffodil Society. "I desire to place on record the society?s thanks to the judges namely: Mrs and Miss Van Veen who officiated so efficiently at our spring show; to the society's officers, committee, and helpers, who worked so hard. To those who helped by donations advertisements or other meaiis I tender the Society's and my own sincere thanks. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Dr. W.
