' \ On Monday of last week traffic on the Lake Front Highway south of Hatepe, near Bulli Point, was blocked for four hours by an unexpected^y heavy fall of earth resuTing fr~m an explosive charge designed to displace a quantity of spoil in connectUn with extensive road works now being carried out. * * * * Lava that pours from erupting volcanoes can be diverted by properly placed walls to protect inhabited areas, geologists of the U.S. Geological Survey believe. In the 1951 eruption of Mihara Yama on O Shima Island, Japan, two UjS. geolpgists studied the way a lava flow was partly blo~k by a concrete building on the crater rim. This gave further indication that it is feasible. * * * Fritz Kreisler, world-famed violinist and composer, has presented a rare Italian violin to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. It will be used in the Library's annual concert series. The Australian-born violinist, now an American citizen, purchased the violin from a British firm in 1926. It was made in 1733 by Guisepne Guarneri del Gesu in Cremona, Italy,, and is corisidered an outstanding example of this work.
