HOT MEALS FROM ARMY RATIONS

\ The U.;S. Army Quartermaster Corps is working on a new method for heating canned rations in the field — by wrapping a flameless fuel unit around the can. The experimental device operates on a prineiple similar to that of a hot patch in a tire vulcanizing. One of the fuel units is wrapped around each can, ignited with a match, and in a few minutes heats the contents of | the can to the desired temperature. Initial testing indicates that the fuel unit is effective even though the contents of the can are frozen solid. The unit will be given extensive field testing when refinements have been completed in samples now under test.
