S.M. COURT
SESSION AT TAUPO A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held at Taupo on Friday last, Mr Harlow, S.M., presiding. Moss Tawhai, of Waitahanui, charged with riding a motor-cycle without exercising sufficient eare, was convicted and fined £4, with costs and his lichnse suspehded for one month. The offence, it was stated, occurred on February 10 last, when the accused collided with a motor car at' Three Mile Bay. Maeta George Tapsell, employed at the Hotel Waitakei, was charged with dangerous driving. It was 1 > stated in evidence that the accused i had been driving a truck at> such an excessive speed that Constable Bowlands at 60 m.pJi. had been unable to overtake him. Moreover, the accused had passed a car on a blind bend and cut in front of it to avoid an on-coming bus. In entering a conviction and fine of £10 with costs, the Magistrate commented on the risk to the public, as in the case of the bus passengers, of this kind of irresponsible conduct. A conviction was also recorded on the charge of driving without a license. It was stated thht the accused had just obtained authority to be granted a licence. In view of the offense this authority was suspended for 6 months. . Breaches of Traffic Regulations. Proeeedings instituted under the Transport Department Regulations resulted as follows: — 4 Allan Guiney Wilson, explaining that he had inadvertently overlooked the matter, was fined 10/- and costs for driving a motor vehicle without a warrant of fitness. George Chase was fined £7 and costs for driving ac vehicle without a heavy traffic licence. Hugh McAlIister, for driving without a licence, and for having no warrant of fitness for his vehicle, was fined 15/-, with costs, on each count.
Justices Court At a sitting of the Justice Court, before Messrs V. Fail and W. H. Kent, earlier in the week William Anderson was charged with intent to defraud Agnes Watson at Taupo by issuing a valueless cheque for £10. It was stated that the accused had been released fromi goal only two weeks previously, after seiwing sentence for similar offences. Anderson was convicted and sentenced to 6 months hard labour.
