Thistles May Cause Deaths of Cattle

Serious mortalities have been reported when hungry cattle have been grazed in paddocks very heavily infested with winged or variegated thistles. If it is not possible to cut and remove the thistles • from the paddocks, the Department of Africulture advises that care be taken j to see that hay or other food is available so that the thistles do not constitute a large proportion of the diet. If any cattle grazing in inwested paddocks are found to be distressed and breathing heavily, all the cattle in the paddock should be very quietly moved into a clean paddock, and veterinary 'aid sfiould be enbp+Acl immediately.
