CAR CONVERSION
IRRESPONSIBLE VANDALS PUNISHED A sitting of the Taupo Police Court was held last week, Messrs J. D. Swan and A. H. Reid, Justices of the Peace, presiding. Papa Taurimu was charged that at Taupo, on May 10, ihe converted a Chevrolet truek, valued at £750, the property of the Taupo Box Company. He was further charged with driving without a license. Constable E. H. Rowlands, for the prosecution said the accused had driven a heavy logging truck recklessly all over the place, finally abandoning the vohicle after doing damage to the extent of £50, Taurimu was convicted and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment on the first charge, and was convicted anj discharged for driving without a license. Dave Turepa and U-Hepi Hepi were conjointly charged with converting a Bedford truck, the property of the Taupo Box Company. Constable Rowland, for the Police, said this offence also occurred on May 10 and those responsible had caused considerable damage when the truck collided with a ear at Wairakei, damaging it to the extent of £200. The truck, itself, suffered to the extent of £100. Turepa, the principal offender was convicted and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment, and Hepi, also convicted, was sent to prison for one month. Breach of Arms Act. On Wednesday, May 7, Herbert Leonard Anderson, employed at Wairakei, was charged at the S.M. Court, Rotorua, with being unlawxully in possession of explosives. In all he had 8 or 9 detonators, a plug of gelignite, and 3 feet of fuse wire. Convicted of a breach of the Arms Act., he was sentenced to one months imprisonment.
