VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE The Superintendent of thxe Tokaanu Volunteer Fire Brigade, Mr Bruce Sutherland, presided over the following members at a meeting in Ford's store, Tokaanu on Thursday evening, May 16: — Rev Father Arts, Messrs H. B. Proctor, M. Campbell, F. HilT, A. Wlthington, A. Maricich, P. Dempsey, B. Edkins, H. Gee and V. J. Ford (secretary). Apologies for absence through illness were received from Messrs H. Buxton and H. Manu. After the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed inward eorrespondence was dealt with from the Fire Service Council, cailing for annual returns; the Auckland District United Fire Brigade's Association advising results of Derrtonstration held. at Mangakino on April 12, last; elected members of the executive: alteration to pump; and voting paper for place of 1953 Conference. A letter was also received from the secretary, Auckland District United Fire Brigades' Association advising of his projected visited to Tokaanu on May 4, last. The secretary reported that Mr Kirkbride had heen involved in a motor accidept prior to his projected visit here and having suffered a possible fracture of the arm the trip had to be cancelled. It wa§ resolved that a letter of sympathy be written Mr Kirkbride expressing regret at his accident and wishing him a speedy recovery and the opportunity of meeting him here in Tokaanu at a later date. Mr Keith Proctor was unanimously elected a member of the Brigade. The Superintendent advised the meeting that Mr Varley, Chief Fira Offtcer, had visited him on Anzac Day alvhough no notificati*>n had b^en received of Mr Varley^s visT. Pending communication from the

Chief Officer, Fire Service Council, painting of Fire Station is to be deferred. A practice was called for 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, May 18.
