Mr and Mrs Baine, of Auckland, spent the week-end with friends in Taupo. * . * * Mr and Mrs Arthur- Watson, of Te Awamutu, have been staying over the week-end with Mrs Peart, Lake View Road. * * * Mr H. G. Bell, Editor of the New Zealand Herald, and Mrs Bell, have been staying for part of their holiday at Wairakei Geyser House. * * * Mr C. F. Sherley, dental surgeon, wishes to advise that he will not be available for appointments until Saturday, May 24. * * * Mr and Mrs H. Minett, of Mere Road, are on a holiday visit to Hawkes Bay. * * * * Readers should note that the next visit to Taupo of Mr G. T. A. McClelland, optician, of Rotorua, which was advertised to take place the second Saturday in May hast been postponed one week to Saturday, May 17th. * * * Mrs P. A. Roache, of the Mount Tauranga, and Mrs H. Cuff, of Te Puke, have been on a visit to their sister, Mrs S. MacDonnell of Tararepa Road, Taupo. Mrs MacDonnell intends to spend the May school holidays at Piriaka, in comjpany with her grand-daughter Colleen Erickson. The Ladies' Guild of St. Andrew's Anglican Church organised a very successful "Bring and Buy" on 'Saturday last in aid of the church funds. A good stock of articles and comestibles was contributed by various donors. The sale commeneed at 10 a.m. and there was a very satisfactory clearance by the end of the day. The total sum realised was £63, approximately. * * * Hitiri and Nepia Maniapoto, recently farevvelled on their departure for Korea, are now well on their way to the front, according to news received by Mrs Maniapoto, of Te Rangi— ita. Nepia, the younger, left Wellington on Saturday, April 19th by the first air-lift and spent an enjoyable week-end i ij Sydney before . going on the next hop to Darwin. Hitiri was expected to leave on the . third air-lift. Further news of their experiences will be of great interest

to their many friends in Taupo. * K T * Mrs M. H. Miller, of Kohimarama, Auckland, spent a recent weekend at her cottage in Tamamutu Street with her son, Mr R. T. Miller and his small daughter Judith. Mr Miller, with his wife and four children have been spending their vacation iii New Zealand. vThey have now returned to New York by air. He was during the war official corr£spondent with the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. After the war he was attached. to the Prime Minister's staff, and later was appointed to a position on the United Nations Trusteeship Commission, with headquarters in New York. One of his adventures as war correspondent was a trip to Berlin in a bomber piloted by his brother Denis, now a senior captain with the B.O.A.C. with a D.S.O. and D.F.C., as mementoes of his exploits during the war. The eorrespondents experience during the raid on Berlin through a storm of "flaek" was not one he cared to repeat. But he got a thrilling story out of it at the risk of his lif e.
