The New Lake Hotel, Taupo....
A considerable pericd has elapsed since the Lake Hotef in Tongariro Street, Taupo was destroyedf by fire. Unavoidable dehys resulf-mg from the windingup of the estate of the fate Mr GalEagher, negotcations with the Licensirtg Comrnission, and other questions to be seftled, have deferred positive steps to replace the building. The way is now clear for a start to be made. Plans have been x prepared for a new hotel building provided with guest accommodation and amenities of the most modern kind, to be erected for Galiagher Properties Ltd., on the old hotel site. It will have front-
^ges to Tongariro and Tuwharetoa Streets. The corner at the junction of these two streets will be intersected by a curved driveway, in front of whtch, occupying the sp^ce between it and the streets, will be a cultivated garden and shrubs. The new structure will. be of re-in-forced concrete, one-storey, and a twostorey portion over, making provision for a one storey secfion for future extra bedrooms. The present intention is to provide 21 bedrooms for 26 guests. The bedrooms will have hot and cofd water amenities; some will have their own pri-
vate baths and toilets, and others will have showers and toilets. In addition, of course, there will be baths and toilets for general use. The new hotel will have a pubfic bar, private bar, public lounge, spacious guest lounge accommodation, guest dining room, pubiic dining room for casual patrons. ' In short, the entire buifding and amenities will rank at the Four-Star Standard. AEI deparfments will be centrally heated, and every care taken to ensure adequate lighting and ventilation for the dining rooms, lounges and other
parts of the hotel. The bars will be de~ signed on the most up-to-date Eines and in accordance with modern and effio. ient practice. There will also be a hottle store conveniently sited, and adequately stocked to supply the needs of the public. This will be designed and equipped on the most up-to-date lines. The proprietors reaiise that this has been a iongfelt want in the Taupo township. In the meantime provision has been made for a temporary bottle store, which will open for business as from today.
