HATEPE LETTER

A CARELESS ACT — APRIL 18.

(Local Correspondent)

A yisiting launch to Hatepe on Easter Saturday forgot the unwritten law, when crossing fishermen's line's, (writes our Hatepe Correspondent). This launch destroyed approximately £7 to £8 (replacement value) of fishing gear, cutting off hacking lines traces and spoons, of two irate fishernien who fortunately just saved their rods. As replacing gear is an expensive item, especially when lost through the carelessness of iarger craft, Hatepe Fishernien can take a warning from this incident. We would like to know through your correspondence column, if these sporting items have been excelled during April. — Mr R. Morehu shot a large board over six feet long. A northern firm is now mounting the head. Four deer fell, to three shots from his j rifle. Later Mr Morehu found his magazine to be empty and his dogs swimming round a large stag in a deep river pool. Mr Morehu can handle any sporting situation and the stag was landed hy a lasso. Visitors to Hatepe early in the month included Mr and Mrs Wyett of Paekakariki, who recently purchased two of the six sections sold here recently. Four new houses were erected during the month. These included a very pleasant-looking home, in asbestos, for Mr G. Gording; a twostoried iresidence (for Messrs W. Gibbs and Taylor, of Hastings; a two-storied home of old-world design for Mr C. Ghristensen; and one, in moulded aluminium, for.Mr G. B. Bradshaw, of Wellington- — a "pre-fab" house that should attract a good deal of interest. A recent week-end party at the home of Dr K. Deane included Mrs K. Deane, her sister (Mrs L. G. Reiger), Mr and Mrs G. C. Petersen and Miss Petersen, all of Palmerston North; and Miss Heather Thomson, New Plymouth. Easter guests included Mr and Mrs L. G. Reiger and family, and Shree Auckland ,Umvea"sity College students, Miss Vivian Deane, Miss Jean Thomson, Dunedin, and Miss Angela Lewis, Hawera. ; Others in residenee included Mr • and Mrs W. Long and Mrs Jamieson (Palmerston North), Mrs Foster and family (Levin), Mrs and Mrs J. Ladd and family, Mr and Mrs Christensen, Mr and Mrs G. Gooding and family, Dr and Mrs North and family,, all of Palmerston North; Mr Taylor and family, Mr Gibbs, Mr Olliver and ! family of Hastings, Mr and 'Mrs G. B. Bradley of Wellington and gaiests, Mr and Mrs W. A. C. Perry Wairarapa. Johnston (Hamilton); Mr • and Mrs W. Irwin and family, Gisborne; Mr and Mrs Haltane, and daughter, Whakatane; Mr and Mrs G. Bridson and family of Te Aroha; Mr and Mrs Prior and gr'andson, Birkenhead.
