The Taupo Sawmillers' Associatioi wrote asking that a convenient site be set apart for the dumping of sawdust from the mills. It was decided to take up the question with the Forest Service, the Lands' Development and and the Crown Lands Department^ to determine a suitable locality. It was resolved to serve notice to all concerned that bowsers now standing on footpaths must be removed by the end of April. On the question of a children's play area, raised by the Ratepayers' and Businessmen's Associations, the board agreed that the old bowling green site would be the most suitable location in the meantime, and action will be taken accordingly. Receipt of the town board's donation of £100 to the funds of the Taupo Volunteer Fii^e Brigade was gratefully acknowledged. Works Report The chairman of the works committee (Mr J. E. Story), reported a follows on the progress of the works during the period March 20th — April 17 th: — v The grader, after overhaul, was immediately put to work on all streets, by scarifying In the first instance and then subsequently grading back to the normal grade of the road. The grader was diverted for three days including travelling time, to the access road to the power site. Culverts have been supplied by th Ministry of Works and placed into position along the lake front as well as filling in the washout. Several wooden culverts have been removed, repaired and replaced into correct alignment. Access to the lake foreshore at the end of the main street has been reformed and improved by formation of steps leading dov/n to the beach. The hedge on the western side of the main street has been cleared and the footpath brought down to path level. The junction of the Spa and Golf Course road has been widened and now affords better vision which will be improved further when time permits to finally complete the job with culverts. Casual labour has been employed on clearing the broom at the cemetery which was a decided improvement and in the burning season all debris will be burnt off . Spraying of weedkiller at the proposed new camp site has been delayed owing to the pending arrival of the weedkiller. All growth on the footpaths in the main street has been cleared and it is proposed to have these consolidated with pumice, with a view to the board's approval to have some tar sealed providing weather conditions are favourable. The major work carried out during the above period, was the sealing of portions of the side streets leading off the main street. The cost of this work resulted in 4000 square yards being sealed at a cost of 1/1 per sq yd. This cost however will vary when a much bigger programme is undertaken, because formation and consolidation is necessary prior to the application of the sealing , coat.
