TAUPO WINS FINAL MATCH The Taupo Club played its last match of the season on April 6 when Rotorua R.S.A. brought a team through for the final match,. Although the visitors were not able to arrive in time for a start before lunch, they very sportingly played . on until a quarter of an hour after the normal time of 6 p.m. for drawing stumps, and thus enabled Taupo to pass their score for the loss of six wickets. After a single was taken off his first ball, Loughlin tempted Long to cut the next one to point where he was well caught lef t-hand'e |. Strange in his next over clean bowled Sibley witlra full toss, but thereafter Mackie and Harding handled the bowling confidently for nearly an hour. They had taken the score to 66 before Mackie tried to hit a ball from Collett's second over, and it. came in from the off and clean bowled him. Two overs later with twelve runs added he simiiarly beat Adams. When Jenkins joined Harding, a partnership of 31 seemed to take the game Rotorua's way again, but an attempt at a short run by the former found both batsmen at the same end, and a smart return from Collett gave him no chance to get back to his crease. Meanwhile McKean replaced Strange and bowled very well, but without fortune — two or three chances off his first two overs not going to hand. When Loughlin returned to the bowling crease at 122 he had' the Rotorua skipper caught behind from his first ball. Harding retired after a long innings for a steady and invaluable 52, and Strange took the eighth and ninth wickets, the latter being the result of a difficult catch which Collett took r'unning back from mid-wicket. Rotorua then deelared their innings closed with nine wickets down for 177, Loughlin, Strange and Collett shared the bowling honours evenly. Collett and Forster opened for Taupo against accurate bowling by Trimley and Lodge. Collett has struck a bad patch in the past few games, and this time when facing Trimley he appeared to reach out too far for a ball on the off which came across and bowled him. Forster and Acres took half an hour to take the score to 25, but a change in the bowling tempted Forster to drag his foot and Jenkins did not require a second chance to stump him. When Strange arrived at the crease the scoring rate brightened considerably. He set about the bowling with -a will, although surviving one eventful no-ball which bowled him and caused him to collapse on the ground with cramp in his right foot. He collected an invaluable 67 including 2 sixe^N and eight fours in little more than an hour's batting before he went l.b.w. to Harding. His partnership with Acres had added exactly 100 runs. In the next over Acres was taken by isurprise by a splendid return from the deep and was run out. His 35 which was slow and sure, had taken about an hour and a half. With 43 runs still required for a

win Loughlin wasted no time trying to play himself in, but brought runs on the board chiefly by well-placed twos. McKean was bowled at 145 in trying to force the pace but Beale stayed and pushed the score alongiLoughlin carted a tremendous six into the ladies car park and next over was run out trying to convert two runs into three. Patchett came in in time to make the winning hit and a very sporting game finished with Taupo the winners by six wickcst. R.S.A. Rotorua, First Innings: — - L. Mackie, b Collett, 31; A.
