VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE
The Tokaanu Volunteer Fire Brigade met in Ford's Store Tokaanu on Tuesday evening last April 1, when the deputy superintendent, Mr H. B. Proctor, occupied the chair in the absence due to illness of the Shperintendentfc, Mr B. Sutherlands The following members were present: — Rev Father Aarts, Messrs A. Withing:iion, H. Mariu, N. Chhiba, G. Durham, M. Campbell, K. Maricich and V. J. Ford (Secretary). Apologies for absence were received' from the following:-— Messrs B. Sutherland and W. Durham. ' As the tender and trailer were in an unsatisfactory . mechanical condition at present it was resolved that these units be repaired immediately. Results of the recent Art Union condueted by the United Fire Brigades Association Palmerston North Conference were received' the.major prizes going to Fairlie, Palmerston North and Hokianga. A letter was received from one of. the newly nominated members, Mr G. S. Tarbutt declining membership on the grounds of old age. A dpnation of £1 10/- was received from Mr Proctor which was much appreciated by members who warmly thanked him for his generous action, Mr Withington reported that the' Infernal Affairs Department were supplying couplings for use in conjunction with the Forestry DepartmenFs equipment. The elearing of scrub and bracken on Crown Land in the Turangi township has been completed by the Prisons Department. - 'jThere was still more painting to be done to the Fire Station and it was resolved that this matter be left over until our next meeting. The Secretary was instructed to make aplication to the Urban Fire Ai^fcihority requesting sufhcient funds to cover possible repair charges to Fire Tender. ^
