TIHOI NEWS

A very sucessful school fair was held recently at Tihoi, to raise funds for the purchase of ' a radio for the school. In spite of a wet day things went with a swing when a happy crowd had gathered from the Tihoi and Waikara sawmills, and the neighhouring State Hydro-Electric camp. With many attractions, including a chocolate wheel, a hangi, various stalls, roosters to chase and races to'run, there was no time for a dull moment, and by the end of the day over £80 had been raised. The children had previously entered with energy into a copper tpail and bottledrive competition, which was won by Kiwi House, w^ 1,256 bottle and 266 copper s. , ,• Mr Sam Smith won the table tennis prixe, .and the children's races were won by the following:— -Preschool: Hilda • Burgess; 5 and 6 yr. olds: Haereata. Matene; 7 yr. olds: Wayne Anderson; 8 yr. olds: Sissy Matene; 9 and 10 yr. ' olds: Colin Tawhi; over 10 yrs. : Alvin FrankJin.
