MOST ALARMING
A charming and rather timid young girl, not long out from England was staying with two elderly friends for her three weeks vacation. In truth, this should have been called only a change because she was so helpful, also energetic; and the old people declared that they had the holiday. . On one occasion, as an alternative, they suggested that she should go out for the day. So with a parcel of lunch and riding her bicycle, she set out for Waitahanui to see the trout at the river. outlet heing caught by the fly-rod fishermen, all standing in a row. It was a perfect day and the going was good, until suddenly, just after four-mile peg, she saw the large notice-board and •' 'fead, BEWARE OF WILD HORSES. Terrified, she turhed arid pedalled in cycle-race fashion and frantic haste back to Taupo. The notice should really say, 4!"Motorists, watch out for stray horses." , Thus, it would rouse no nightmare visions of tossing manes, stream ing . taila, , white-rimmed wicked eyes, bared teeth, slant-back ears and thundering murderous hooves, pounding forward in massed and vicious attack upon one lone and defenceless female. — T.P.
