Sir, — I wish to compliment you and your paper on your leader and articles regarding the C.A.S. The information 'contained therein was both timel.y and necessary and shouid prove a great benefit tc the C.A.S. here. It seemed a great pity that more people did not attend the concert, in view of the well-balanced fare that was offered and those who went certainly received "two for the price of one." Could I also compliment Mrs E. Perry on her ^xcellent poem "Invitation" and hope that the standard will be maintained? Also in the fifth verse of "Memories" shouid not the last word in the last line be "mind"? I shouid be very grateful for any illumination as to the style of this poem, as I must confess I fail to deteet any continuous pattern or harmony, and I would welcome enlightenment. — I am, etc., "ONE OF THE FAITHFUL." Written by an American Soldier on furlough from the Pacific war zone it expressed a nostalgic sentiment that struek an answering chord for its simple and grateful acknowledgment of happiness experienced in Tokaanu. Its message was plain, which is more than can be said for some recent effusions by our modern pseudointellectuals — Editor.] Sir, — As one of the numerous readers of your weekly edition as well as being one of those who took an active part in the appeal to raise funds to build the Taupo R.S.A. iMemorial Hall, I could not but feel interested in the contributions preceding this regarding the above Hall. Consequently I am giiving you herein my version of the cir-% cumstances leading up to and the activities of those who were instrumental in raising the sum of over £4,000 by way of a Queen Carnival, for the above purpose. In the latter part of the year 1949 a public meeting was convened by the Taupo branch of the R.S.A. where it was resolved to set up a committee consisting of members of the R.S.A. and the public generally for the purpose of finding ways and means of raising funds to erect a memorial to our fallen soldiers (Pakeha and Maori) such to be in the form of a community or social Hall and club-rooms, the latter to (Continued on Page 5.)
