PLEASANT DAY ON TAUPO GREEN

An enjoyable day was spent recently by local members of the Taupo Bowling Club; thirty-two of whom at the club's invitation turned up foi a trial game on the new green. Although not in first-class order, having only been laid down for a period of eleven months, players were surprised at the speed and accuracy of the green. The general opinion was that it. will be second to none when completed. Eight heads were in use. The skips were Messrs C. McLean, E. T. Smith, B. Armstrong, Mr Taylor, E. K. Rowlands, G. Fraser, N. George and IVfr McMillan. Play was exceptionally good, there being many keen contests. Mr E. T. Smith and Mr E. H. Rowlands' teams Avent through the day without loss; to compete in the grand final. This was won by Mr Rowland's team, all credit being due to him for his masterly play and guidance. The two ladies Mrs McMillan and Mrs Pollock gave a really good demonstration of steady and eonsistant play. A special word of praise is due also to Mesdames McLean, Armstrong, Noble, Rowlands and Misses Coley and Rowlands, who provided and attended to the refreshments. The 9 president, Mr J. D. Swan, in a neat speech welcomed the visitorsr, and thanked all who contributed towards making a memorable and enjoyable day.
