WEDDING
MAlRTIN - TIERNEY _ . At St. PauTs Prebyterian Church on Saturday, March 15, Rev H. Johnson officiated at the marriage of, Margaret, eldest daughter of Mlrs Sullivan (Napier) and Maurice, son of Mr and Mrs A. M. (Tony) Tierney of Taupo. Escorted by her step-father, the bride wore an embossed ivory faiile gown cut on Princess lines, with fitting bodice and long sleeyes with tightly fitting, deeply buttoned cuffs. The scalloped oval neckline featured padded applique flowers of the same materials. The graceful skirt which ended in a full circular train repeated the intricately worked scalloped edge and appliqued flowers. The tulle veil, which was worn mantilla fashion, was held in place by a coronet of wired tulle orange blossom and the bride carried a beautiful bouquet of pink roses, regali and centifolium lilies, The two bridesmaids, Marion Martin (sister of the bride), and Valerie McMillan (Waipa), wore lilac, swiss organdie gowns featuring necklines similar to the bride's, and bouffant skirts with matching scalloped edged capes. Juliet caps of lilac organdie flowers were worn and pastel shaded bouquets were carried. Little Anne Tierney (cousin of the groom), as flower girl, looked charming in a picture frock of spotted lilac net over satin and carried a tiny basket of flowers. The best. man was Mr B. Rimmer, and the groomsman, Mr Nornran Franklin.
During the service "Because" was beautifully sung by Mrs Royce Clark. The reception, followed by a dance, took place at Ricket's Hall, which was decorated with flowers and ferns. Mrs Sullivan (motber cf the bride) wearing a fawn suit with hrown accessories and Mrs A. M. Tierney wearing a floral jersey silk frock, pastel green edge fyo edge coat. and white accessories re~ ceived the numerous guests. Mr Alan McLean. of Taupo, carried out the duties of toastmaster. Visitors to Taupo who attended the wedding included: — Mrs M. Hopkins (Rotorua) Who designed and made the beautiful gowns for the bride and bridesmaids; Mr and Mrs L. MacKersey (Hastings), Mrs E. N. iSeales (Rotorua). Miss K. Scherp (Wairoa), Mr and Mrs E. J. Tierney (Rotorua). Mr and Mrs Le Burge (Point Chevalier), Mrs T. Anderson (Auckland). Mr and Mrs Ellis Wyatt (Warkworth), Mr and Mrs L. Anderson (Otahuhu). Mr F. O'Drien (Napier), Mr and Mrs T. Ellis (Auckland), Mrs R. B. Clarke (Ngawha Springs). Mr and Mrs Jim Carroll (Napier), Mrs C. Lee, Mr F. Lee and Miss Freda Lee of Napier; Mr and Mrs A. Sullivan (Hastings), Mrs R. Dinsdale (Rotorua), Mr Bill Martin (Napier), Mr and Mrs McDonald (Rotorua). The lovely bouquets were made by Mrs T. Kent of Taupo. For travelling the bride wore a fawn garberdine suit, teal blouse and tan acces&oris.
Mr Guy Cr.«cket has been appointed Building Inspector under the Taupo Town Board, taking over the duties previously discharged by Mr R. B. Price, Town Board Engineer, who resigned last month, and has since taken up a position at Mount Maunganui. * * * Mr and Mrs Don Brandle, of Oklahoma, U.S.A. who have been sojourning in Taupo on a prolonged vacation, returned to their home last week. They proceeded to San Francisco by air. Humid conditions prevailed as far as Honolulu, but there on the the trip was delightful. Mrs Brandle was Lovie Ricket before her marriage. * * * Messrs Sinclair and Yates have been enjoying a successful holiday c^tching s^hnapper on their trout rods at Coromandel. * * * Mrs R. Sinclair has returned from a holiday at the Mount. * * tic Miss Payn has returned to Taupo after a very enjoyable holiday spent with Mr and Mrs Frank Powdrell, of Hastings.
