HATEPE LETTER

Tatepe, March 21. Building activity in Hatepe is roflected in 3 new residences ereeted during the past year. Of different design all are finished with creosote for the cuter wall,3. One is a charming home, built for Mrs W. Long', of Levin, and was opened early last year. Double folding glass doors open on a raised concrete balcony. The lounge is of the popular L-shape design, with large plate glass windows, facing the sunset. The front view, faces Western Bay, and glimpses of the Lake make this a desirable spot. Mr Long is well-kno\vn in the Levin district and further afield, as a model farmer. * * * A new home on the point, of modern design, has a large lounge room, I with a double chimney dividing kitchenette and living room. The kitchen has a wide stainless steel bench and a steel and plastic Lunch Counter adjoining the fire place and forming a biarrier between rooms. The owners have a complete panoramic view of the Lake and the mountains at the southern end, the bays on the Western side, with a wide sweep to the Taupo township in the North. * * * * A house recently built for Mrs J. Ladd, of Palmerston North, is a two story structure, with garage, boatshed etc., on the ground floor. Above are bed rooms, and a large living room. * * * Mr and Mrs Ladd and family, returned to Palmerston North last week-end, after a pleasant holiday of a few weeks duration. He * * Mr and Mrs W. Gibbs have returned to Hastings, after an enjoyable period spent at Hatepe. Mr Gibbs contemplates building here at an early date. * * * The Yen. Archdeacon and Mrs Hall and; partry lof Gis»borne havie expressed a desire to re-visit Hatepe next year. * * * * Miss A. Morehu, of the Nursing StafF, Rotorua is spending her annual holiday at her parents' home. * * * * A short time ago, a remarkable meteor, globe-like in appearance, was observed from Hatepe over Western Bay. Last July, one was seen in the sky, over Taupo. This visitation had a long fiery tail, and a short time after, similar meteors were reported from Nelson.— S. A. Krivan, correspondent.
