MORE CO-OPERATION WANTED
Comment in various quarters suggests that there is room for a more liberal spirit of co-operation on the part of the Tourist Department in ] egard to catering for the needs and convenienees of visitors. To take one example: It is ground for serious critieism, material for grievances that visitors staying in Taupo in the hotels and guests 'houses are eompleted to make a special joumew to Wairakei by regular bus transport or taxi if they wish to participate in the officially conducted tours in the W airakei thermal wonderland. It is reasonably contended that provisi°n could quite easily be made for a bus to be detailed to pick up passengers for return trips to and from Wairakei at the Hawkes Bay Bus Depot in Taupo. Visitors from Australia and other parts overseas have been heard to complain about the inconvenience and ;expense involved in the present system. They come here fexpecting to have the convenience and * comfort countered for in every possible way, and their complain ts constitute a bad advertisement for our tourist policy. Another suggestion worthy of note to those concerned in catering toi visitors is that launch-owners might take inlto congideration the question of putting a pleasure cruising vessel on a regular day timetable. .It is pointed out that many more people — permanent residents as will visitors — would patronise the lake excursions if it were known that such a service was available.
