ANGLERS SHOULD DO THEIR PART

It is pointed out, to avoid misunderstanding in the subject of marking trout that the system in practice at present is different from the "tagging" in previous seasons. In our previous issue it was made to appear that fish were still being "tagged." This is not so. "Tagging" was in practice till 1940, when on account of the shortage of tags # this latest method of "m/arking" was adopted. In a statement issued lover the signature of Mr W. A. Spragg, president of the Tongariro Anglers* Club (Inc.), the co-operation of anglers with the department officers engaged in fish research work and particularly this season with reference to "marked fish,*' is stressed. "Departmental Officers engaged in research work have marked aproximately 6000 fish by the removal of the adipose fin (which is situated in the back of the fish between the dorsal and the tail). It is of the utmost importance that the particulars of these fish (that is the date of capture, place caught, sex, length and weight) be handed in to one of the agents listed below. This work carried out by departmental officers is of no value unless you as an angler do your share. To put it briefly, the department wants to know the proportion of marked to unmarked fish in anglers* catches." The following recordings stations are eauipped to weigh and measure fish and will also accept dairies on behalf of the Government Hatchery: -Mr A. G. Hall Pihanga, St., Taupo; Mr I. Logan, Waitahanui Lodge; Mr A. Lawrence, Lawrence's Lodge, Waitahanui; Mr M. Krivan, Hatepe; Mr W. A. Spragg, Waitetoko; Mr G. J. Flight, TaurangaTaupo; Mr W.
