NEGLECTTD RIVER APPROACHES
Our correspondent at Turangi reports that much dissastisfaction is being expressed by anglers over the poor means of access to the river. "In some places" he states, "it is not possible to get near the river owing to thick blackberry and scrub. The Department of Internal Affairs has done nothing in the way of cutting and maintaining tracks and as a result miles of good water cannot be fished, while those pools which are accessible are flogged from early morning till late at night. The road leading down to the Poplar Pool, Gull Reach and three more pools is simply impossible and so three miles of good fishing water are lost. "It is time that the Department paid some attention to the needs of anglers. Pleas are put forward to anglers to co-operate, with the Department but the Department is very unwilling to assist anglers. No notice is taken of representations made to the powers that be."
