BUFFALOES AS HOSTS

A children's picnic sponsored by the Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes was held at Acacia Bay on a recent Sunday for the wives and children of members of the Order. The day started fair and warm and with everybody in high spirits. Trucks were used as transport and the children were soon on the way to the Bay. Arriving there things were soon in full swing. The first business was to appoint judges for the races. Mr Vic. Geoghan was elected as organizer and Mr Don Brown and George Bonner as judges, and a hard job they had too. After a whip around with the hat enough money was collected to pay out in prizes and Mr Norman Ogren was elected to pay out. A lollie scramble was first on the programme to limber the children up, while the organizer sorted out the age groups for the races this done the races started. The judges had a very hard job picking the winners but after everything was sorted out everybody was happy. Apples and ice cream, soft drinks and lollies were in abundance. Serving out the ice cream was something to watch. The racing was all over before dinner so a few games were organized for the elder children, a game of tug-o-war between the boys was in progress and Mr Geoghan became so excited that he joined in, that side of course being disqualified, but it was great fun and the kids enjoyed it. After dinner the heats for the Buffalo Challenge Cup were run off. The handicapper was Mr Jack Atwood, and he did pretty well in placing the runners. After all the heats were run off and excitement was high the final was run and after a good race and a close finish, Mr Vic. Geoghan was declared the winner. Next came the ladies 100 yards sprint, also for a challenge cup, and was won by Mrs Bill Rewa, a good race and a popular win and Congratulations to Mrs Rewa from the Lodge.
