MOTUOPA
Trolling at Motuopa and Stump Bays, has been very patchy, during the past week, although definite signs of improvement yesterday and today. Limit -bags have been taken from Waiotaka and Waimarino river mouths, condition of trout fair. Guests staying at Motuopa Lodge, included: Messrs Stan White and Jack Petrie (Stratford); George Carter -(Paihia for two weeks) ; Mr and Mrs J. Belwood (Dunedin); Mr H. J. Linklater and party (Fielding) ; Mrs A. Penfold (Cambridge).
TAURANGA - TAUPO.
The Tauranga-Taupo river mouth is not yielding many fish, the upper reaches of the river excellent fishing. Fish are much lighter in weight than expected for this time of the year. One ten pound was included in the limit bag taken by Mr Arthur Hall, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs Cedric (Auckland "Herald"), have also caught limit bags during their holiday at Tauranga Taupo. Guests at Flights Fishing Lodge include Mr Arthur Hall (Wellington), Mr Syd Phipps and party (Wellington) and Mr F. Crofts (Wellington).
SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The annual meeting of the Tauranga Taupo Maori School committee was held on February 29. After the re-election of officers, business was discussed in a bright and cooperative manner. The installation of a Radio-gram with sound system throughout the school, was approved of by the committee. Vote of thanks to the Tuwhareatoa Trust Board for their generous donation of half-cost of the tiny tots school children's trip to the Winter Show held at Hamilton during the past year was carried. It was decided, instead of having a school sports meeting at Easter, to hold a dance on Easter Saturday in. aid of school funds and to hold a sports day at the end of the year for the school pupils and parents. It was also decided that instead of the usual three monthly meetings, to have a monthly meeting with the idea of increasing interest. Mr Spencer was complimented upon having successfully tutored his pupils to the extent of winning three more scholarships. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
MISSION POINT.
Mr and Mrs Stuart Thompson are holidaying at the residence of Mrs Lattey. Miss Margaret MacDonald, Matron of the Maori Girls Hostel, Wellington is spending a few days with Mr and Mrs Spragg. Mr and Mrs A. C. Callahan, manager for the Bank of New Zealand, has returned to Lower Hutt, after "Forty Winks." WHAKIPO BAY. Whilst fishing in Whakipo Bay on Tuesday, March 4 Mr G. D. Campbell, of Christchurch, took a fine brown trout of 10½ lbs. on the fly, and several good conditioned rainbow fish.
WAITAHANUI
For the week ending on Wednesday last, the fishing at Waitahanui was extremely good. March 5, Mr P. Gardiner of Kaukapakapa, took a fine rainbow, officially weighed at 9 lbs. 11 ozs. Among the many taking more or less daily "Limits" was Mr W. P. J. Anderson, of Auckland. There has been a definite "run" of fish into the river and. "fresh run" fish are quite numerous right up to the top pools.
