OBITUARY
The death of Mr John Duncan, Superintendent of Rangipo Prison Farm, Turangi, occurred at the Taumaranui Hospital on Monday, February 18 after a brief illnessv The late Mr Duncan was born at Cowdenbeath, Scotland, and as a young man joined the police force there. In 1926 :he carne to New Zealand and joined the prison service. Most of this service was spent o p, the prison farms of Hautu and Rangipo. Some years ago he rereturned to Scotland for a holiday and, on coming back to New Zealand, resumed service at Hautu. Mr Duncan was a man of upright and sterling character, with few interests outside his work which was of paramount interest.to him. He displayed great interest in the men under his care and took a keen personal interest in them, displaying much tact and sympathy. Although a strict disciplinarian he was just, j and any request or complaint re- 1 I ceived his full attention. Much sympathy is felt for his widow and young son.
