TAUPO ROD AND GUN CLUB
The third annual general meeting of the club was held in.Rickit's Hall, Taupo, on January 2, with Mr L. Cheal, Club President, in the chair. In his report Mr Cheal referred to the formation of the club in July 1949, with the aim of furthering the sports of fishing and shooting and of providing a voice, so to speak, for the sportsmen, both resident and visitors, whose mterests largely centred in the Taupo country. It had been felt that such a body could pool the knowledge of many and do a valuable servke by presenting to the Minister for Internal Affairs, and his officers, who controlled and administered the fishing and shooting in the area, a representative crosssection of angling and fishing views and opinion^ both as concerned the district as a whole and also more particularly in regard to the northern half of the Lake Taupo area. Mr Cheal said that there was no doubt that the representations of the club carried considerable weight with the Minister and his officers as coming from a responsible and united organisation. The secretary presented audited accounts for the past year which showed a credit balance of £48 0/1. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr L. Cheal; vice-president, IMr K. E. Young; secretary, Mr T. M. Kent; committee members elected were Messrs A. Pye, B. Lindeman, C. Vedder, L. Stephenson, Gordon Hardy, F. Fletcher, W. H. Kent, V. Geoghan and Charles Leslie. Among matters dealt with was the desirability of ^cquainting anglers more fully with the details of the local fishing regulations, and the incoming committee was instructed to devote attention to this matter.
