TAUPO SCHOOL
NEW YEAR BEGINS — Thursday, February 2. Taupo School commenced the first term of the year this week with a roll number exceeding all previous records. The roll at the end of last year stood at 278, and despite the usual end-of-the-year loss ^of Form II pupils the number has now risen to 282. The roll number in the Secondary Department is at present 22, which is four short of the number required to qualify for a second teacher. With 30 pupils in Form II this year it seems certain that number going on next year from this form to the High School will be such as to qualify for two teachers. There have so far been very few primer entries, but it is likely that there will be more in this group as the year goes on. Although the new building for the High School is not yet completed, there is every likelihood of accommodation being strained in the not distant future. If the roll number for September next is sustained at 281 for four weeks the school will be entitled to another teacher, which would also be the case if +he roll were 291 for four weeks at any earlier time. With another teacher and with the present buildings completed all available accommodation would be occupied. At present the High School is using one room, not quite completed, in the new building. Standard 3 is using the Fire Brigade Social Room, and Standard 1 is in the Pre$byterian Church club room. This arrangement achieves the much desired end of providing each teacher with a separate class-room. Newcomers to the staff are Miss S. J. Elder, Grade A, Assistant Mistress, from Taranaki, and IMiss R. H. Walters, Probationary Assistant, from Auckland Training College. The members of the teaching staff are as follows: — Headmaster, Mr J. R. Osborne, M.B.E., B.A., B. Comm., A.C^.N.Z., (Standard 4 and part Form I. Secondary Department, Mr R. C. Davis.
