NATIONAL PARTY

The annual general meeting of the Taupo Branch of the National Party was held in Rickits Hall on Wednesday, January 30 last. The chairman, Mr J. D. Swan, read the annual report, a pleasing feature of which was the increase in membership of the branch — total ^ of 222 members, compared with 77 for the previous year. It wTas hoped that not only will this increase be maintained but the goal of 300 be reached. Subscriptions are now due. The balance sheet was adopted, and the following office bearers were elected: — Chairnran, Mr J. D. Swan. Vice-chairman, Mr W. J. Stevens. iSecretary-Treasurer, Miss R. McKelvie. Committee, Messrs A. Graham, K. E. Young, T. S. Couper, J. E. O'Toole; Mesdames Mika and M. Colbeck and Miss J. Branson. The guest speaker for the evening was Mr Eyre, Government member for North Shore, Auckland, who spoke on various matters of interest to Party members. He also touched on world affairs and assured mem- ; bers of the Governments determinat tion to stand by Britain in her present financial crisis: The speaker was heartily applauded, and a vote of thanks accorded bim for his interest and attendance. After discussion of various topics the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
