New Zealand Herald: The first edition of a new weekly newspaper, the Taupo Times, was published last week. The newspaper, which is a tabloid size, devotes the front page of it first edition to fishing, the fire menace, Taupo's hydro-electric scheme and a short history of the town itself. The ieading article says: "The paper has been launched in the belief that, with the co-operation of the people of the Taupo country, the enterprise will be successful . .. Hitherto, in regard to local news, the people of Taupo have been subsisting on gossip. This is not conducive to clear thinking and a robust public spirit." The newspaper is edited by Mr C. J. McKinnon, formerly a leader writer on the Dominion, Wellington. The Dominion: Taupo now has its own newspaper. ,The first issue of the Taupo Times, a weekly. paper of eight four-column pages and featuring district news, was delivered with the morning milk yesterday. It is published by Mr G. A. J. Acres for the Taupo Times Ltd., of Taupo, and printed in Cambridge. The editor is Mr C. J. McKinnon, who retired from the service of the Dominion, Wellington, some years ago. j
