PRESS NOTICES

New Zealand Herald: The first edition of a new weekly newspaper, the Taupo Times, was published last week. The newspaper, which is a tabloid size, devotes the front page of it first edition to fishing, the fire menace, Taupo's hydro-electric scheme and a short history of the town itself. The ieading article says: "The paper has been launched in the belief that, with the co-operation of the people of the Taupo country, the enterprise will be successful . .. Hitherto, in regard to local news, the people of Taupo have been subsisting on gossip. This is not conducive to clear thinking and a robust public spirit." The newspaper is edited by Mr C. J. McKinnon, formerly a leader writer on the Dominion, Wellington. The Dominion: Taupo now has its own newspaper. ,The first issue of the Taupo Times, a weekly. paper of eight four-column pages and featuring district news, was delivered with the morning milk yesterday.
