PUBLIC OPINION
FROM SMALL BEGINNINGS Sir, — Would it be at all possible to taise some enthusiasm whereby some festivity in the form of a carnival could be organised aver the holiday period ? From my position on the fence I observe a restive feeling among the younger community of visi- , tors, especially. There is absolutely nothing for them to do. If a carnival could be organised each year (remember the success of the Queen Carnival ? ) it would prove of great attraction to those who come to Taupo for their holidays, and of even greater benefit to Taupo itself. "Carnivals always pay — no matter what the weather — those coconut shies, chocolate wheels, and merry-go-rounds will attract young and old. The funds could be utilised to great advantage. Firstly, the A.C. Baths. Maybe the Domain would consider doing something about these, which are really a disgrace in their state of disintegration, and a considerable drawback to Taupo actually. People have to patronise the baths — but one never hears them lauding our baths as one of the attractions of Taupo. To the contrary ! With all these wonderful natural resources at our disposal, we could have a truly wonderful Taupo, and the money we spend could be returned by a hundredfold by catering for those who visit Taupo, thereby catering for our little town. Why let Rotorua take all the glory ? — I am, etc., "TAUPO." [At the last meeing of the Taupo Town Board (reported in another column), a decision was recorded concerning the improvement, long overdue, to the A.C. Baths. The programme outline may or may not be open to criticism. Readers who may desire to express their views on the subject are welcome to use our correspondence columns. — Editor, Taupo Times.]
