ECHANICS INSTITUTE
— It may
not be knovvn that the ijer.ms ot a liteirarv iustitute for Taijraoga a*e in existenee, and that there are two very choice aliotments in the township set apart tqr that purpose. Ti.ese are cont'iguous to Captain Fraser's dwe'ling, and eomtnand ;i beaniiful ail'd extensive vievv. A pom mdttee was some time ago formed, and certain resolutions Were adopted with. a view of at once.commen ing the permaneilt organisaiioa of ihe iustitute. The first step to he taken is t'he ealling ofa public meeting to raise funds for a temporary buiiding and the appnintm^ht of trustees in order to have the land conveyed nver to'them. The iristitute even in an infano conuition would be a great aqquisition to the coni'munitv — It would form a pleasant retreht to those' have litery tactes or wish to euitivate tlieni, it would beeome an attractive resort to tnany othcrs who are wearv of rlje few and monotinous t'i sources to be fotind in this sinai! place, and it would furnisli a health ful and elevatiug recreation to the youth of ciur population who ar unprovided with atiy means of men. tal improvemerit, or perhaps ir.noeent etnployment rf their leisure, It is now beeoming a grave'question whai are tbe rising gcneration io be conve ? Jwdging from the present faets, unless some *teps in the right directio'ri are not soon takou, v o heve great reason /or apprerension, We havefine, iutelligent, and welidisposed voung people rurrning to
