In undertaking tbe arduous tas 1 starting a journal Iiere, we are fully aware of the great responsibility we lay ourselves under. lo Politics, we shall make it our studv to pla,ce all questions of moment fully before the public, and where tlie interests and prosperity of Tauranga are at ako 1 we shall be found constantly at our pcfet, Our Lrcal Institutions shall tneet with atteRtiop, and we shall 011 all occasions endeavor to assist in their progress. We shall at all times be most happy to insert any communications with wh'ich we may bq favored, although we will 11 d ourselves responsible for the opipions expressed therein by our eorrespondents ; but all eominunications for the benefit of Tauranga will iiieet with especial attention, and personal correspondence, having a tendency to cause ill-feeling oe with the other, will find no place in the columns of the Argus. It is intended that the Abigus shall contain all matters of Local irtterest, vk., Shipping, Markets, Police, Meetings, Southern News, Auckland Shipping and Coramereial, &c., vvhieli can be obtained up to the hour of going to press, for securing which we have made ample provision. The great want felt of a cheap and respec' table medium of advertising, which we flatter ourselves tliis will fill, induces us to inser* advertisements at the following rates *0LC inch, three months, 30s. ; two inehes, ditto, 40s.'; and so 6n, in proportion lo the length of the advertisement. Auctioneers will be allowed the usual discount. Advertisem nts for one, three, or six months. as agreed. In eonclusion, wc trust, that our endeavors will meet with the assistanee and approba* tion of tlie Public of Tauranga and the surroundihg districts.
