Arrest of Strike Leaders

Sydney, December 6. Mr Hughes declares that the arrests enormously complicate the situation. The railways and tramway association refused to countenance several would-be leaders of the strike mania or Bowling type in voting money for strike purposes. The association earmarked it for specific use. All leaders arrested were bailed out within a few hours. The offence is alleged to have been committed on November sth,. the date on which the delegate Board recommended .the strike. The police visited the Trades Hall and secured a large number of documents and a minute hook relating to the proceedings on November sth.

A mass meeting of miners was held at Newcastle, and was addressed by Bowling and other leaders. The meeting passed a resolution condemning the Government’s action. Everything passed off quietly.
