School Committee.
A meeting of the Te Aroha District High School Committee was held in the school house on Wednesday evening last. Present: Messrs D. McL. Wallace (Chairman), D. Wag* horn, Rev. P. Cleary, W. Ashby, J. T. Maingay, and Geo. Sherlo.sk (hon. Secretary), The headmaster (Mr A. F. Burton) was also in attendance. The usual routine business was , gone through. —Finance— The Treasurer reported that the balance to credit in Bank at end "of October amounted to £3l 12s 4d. Of this amount £l3 had been ceived as net proceeds of Concert, : held in aid of school sanitary funds. , —Concert— The Chairman eulogised the efforts of Rev. P. Cleary, who was | the principal | factor in bringing , the concert to such a successful issue, and he moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Rev. P. Cleary for his efforts : in making the Concert in aid of the school funds % 1 so successful.—This was ’seconded by Mr Maingay and carried unani* mously. —ThanksIn acknowledging the thanks the Rev. P. Cleary moved, and it was seconded by Mr Ashby and carried, “That this committee of Te Aroha District High Schc j! beg to tender their thanks to Mr Frank Harris (who officiated as Hon. Secretary) for the energetic manner in which he worked to make the concert in aid of the sanitation scheme for the school a success, and that the score* tary be requested to write to him > the thanks of the Committee. ; —Sanitation— It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Board of Education re* questing* the) installation of afmor^ « up-to-date sanitary system for the school; at the same time stating that the Committee is prepared '» pay a fair proportion of cost, and respectfully urging that this work be forthwith commenced, and if possible, completed during the Christ* mas holidays. It was ’also decided that a letter be written to the Te Aroha Borough Council requesting that the sewer pipes in Kenrick and Bridge-street# be extended in order to allow of the new sanitary arrangement for the schc j 1 to be carried out. —Appreciation— The Clerk was instructed to write a letter to Mr John Williems, thank* ing him for his donation of a watch to the Cadets, to be competed for. —Prize Books— On the suggestion of Hr Sherlock it was resolved to use the Morton Fund for the purchase of schrol prizes from time to time until the amount was expended. TheTrusfce# are to be approached accordingly. —Monthly Report— The monthly report shewed the attendance to be :—No. on roll: Primary, 244, secondary, 13, with an average attendance 214*7 and 12-6 respectively. Several accounts were passed for payment and the meeting .tennin* atdd.
