Hungahunga Drainage Board

A meeting of the above Board was held the other day in the Board’s office, Boundaiy street, Te Aroha. Present: Messrs T. Hanna (shairman), J. Orr, H. Magill, D. Waghorn, and Franks. Minutes read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence dealt with. -Re-Valuation — From Mr W. H. Herries, M.P., asking to be supplied with exact boundaries of Hungahunga Drainage District. He anticipated no difficultv in connection with re-valuation.

'—Weather Conditions.— Once agtpn the Engineer advised that ‘ until such time as the fine weather sets in no new tenders will be let. As only one tender was received for Peterson’s contract, it was decided to hold the letting in abeyance. —Waipuna Outlet. — The question of providing an outlet for Mr Chudleigh through Mr Laird’s property, was again brought forward. A lengthy advise was read from Mr Gilchrist setting forth the Board’s position in the matter.- Mr Chudleigh, who was in attendance, remarked that Mr Gilchrist’s opinion coincided with that of his (Chudleigh’s) private lawyer.—The Chairman considered Mr Gilchrist’s advise good law, and moved that the Board place on record its appreciation of his services.—Mr Magill seconded and it was carried unani- / mously. —It was ultimately resolved that the Engineer prepare plans and specifications for the work ; also that a , month’s notice be given Mr Laird of the? Board’s intention to do the work. —Rate. —

The Chairman gave notice that he would move at next meeting that a general rate be struck as follows IJdin the £ on A land, Id on B land, and on C land.

—Drainage Wanted. — Mr Geo. Given waited on the Board re drainage of his property, which, he considered had been sadly neglected by the Board.—lt was explained to Mr Given that his purpose would be served when the water permitted O’Brien’s contract to be pushed along.—Mr Given, with a sort of doubtful expression, thanked the Board and retired.,
