Fire at Invercargill

SUPPOSED INCENDIARISM Invercargill, October 25A fire occurred in the Friendly Society’s dispensary at five o’clock on Sunday morning. The shop was gutted and the stock seriously damaged. Robert Jollock, manager, who slept upstairs, descended by a pope and gave tho alarm. The brigade promptly arrived, and by means of a ladder rescued three women, one of them being an invalid who lived upstairs. Two men escaped by the back door. A powerful stream of water soon subdued the flames. It bag been discovered that the safe was robbed of £3O. The thief entered by the back window, and it is surmised set fire to the premises in order to destroy all traces of his visit. The police are hunting for the suspected man.
