BLIGHT PRECAUTIONS

The Victorian Department of Agri* culture has issued the following advice to potato growers :—Plant this season’s crop on land which was not used for potatoes last year ; use no seed unless you know where it has been grown ; before cutting place all potatoes in a bag and soak for two hours in a solution of formalin, lib., and water 32 gallons ; cut all seed, and look for any small patches on the surface which are slightly depressed, or which are softer than the rest of the potato, and cut through them, when, if discoloured in any way, tho potato should be rejected as seed, and boiled before feeding to the pigs.

“ In case a ewe disowns or refuses to let her lamb suck, sprinkle a liltlo salt and aniseed over the back and shoulders of the lamb, this will often induce the mother to lick it an effect a reconciliation, and in no way harm fhe lamb..”

We look upon weeds as a curse, whed they are in one sense a bles« sing, inducing us to stir the soil frequently, and thus keep it light and porous, readily absorbing the 'moisture from the atmosphere.
