Morrinsville Town Board.

The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held in the Council Chambers on 'Thursday evening. There were present Messrs H. Clifford, W. C. Pickett, F. J. Marshall, S. C. Parlour, and C. Manuel. The Chairman bfeing absent Mr Maudel was voted to the chair. Mr Allen wrote applying for leave of absence —Granted. The Committee reported that tenders for supplies were received from Messrs C. and A. Gummer and J. C. R. Watts. Mr Watts’ tender was accepted. Messrs Yaller and Kirton were thp only tenders in for carting and hire of dray, etc. Yaller’s tender was accepted. As no tenders had been received for the work of formiug Studeholme Street which were returnable on Saturday last, it was decided to again call tenders, advertising same in a Hamilton and Te Aroha paper. It was decided not to open a tender which had been handed to the Clerk that day. The Clerk reported that he had carried out his instructions re inspecting verandahs in course of erection. Decided that Mr Humphries be written to that the Board does not approve of his action in erecting a verandah without having obtained permission, and the Foreman was authorised to stop all erections where permission was not granted. The request of the Rev. E. Smith, Baptist Minister, for the use of the building for Sunday School purpose On Sunday afternoous, was granted for the sum of one shilling, which will be refunded if the building is kept swept.— The shelves and brackets are now erected in the building for the use of commercial travellers*—Decided to let the building to the Oddfellows’ Lodge for the sum of £2 per annum. It was decided that Mr Johanson be notified that unless he completes his Thames ‘ Street contract within seven days from date the Board will complete at his expense, and the Foreman was instructed accordingly, sjf The Foreman reported that the work of stripping the grass off the footpath in Canada Street and that the sheathing work at the bridge near saleyards was about completed. The Foreman was instructed to get the various holes filled in with gravel. Considerable discussion took place re the contract for carting, Mr Manuel being very emphatic that the duration of contracts should be specially stated. Eventually it was decided to request the 3 Chairman to call a special meeting to deal with the contract for carting sand and gravel.

The following accounts were passed for payment: Pickett, Ltd., os 6d ; 0. and A. Gummet, £3 6s lOJd; H. Valler, Johansen, 12s 6d ; Newman, £l2 los ; Te Kuiti metal, £4. It was decided to cancel by wire the truck of metal, which has been on order forsome time. The meeting then adjourned.
