Presbyterian Church Social.

A most enjoyable social was held in the Te Aroha Public Hall on Friday evening last, in aid of St. David’s Class-room building lund. The Hall was comfortably filled and the seats arranged s) as to permit of social intercourse. < The chair was occupied by Mr Gilmour, a visitor from Howick, who during the evening referred to the necessity for suitable class-rooms for the Sunday School scholars.

The following programme was submitted :—Cornet Duet, Messrs Donovan and Buchan ; song, “ The Gift,” Miss Butcher ; vocal quartette, “ Sweet Genevieve,” Mrs Brodie, Mrs Blair, Mr Payze and Mr Eayner ; reading “ A Gawk’s Errand,” Eev. W. C. Blair ; girls’ trio, “ If no one marries me,” A. Wallace, F. Eobinson, and E. Bain; song, “ My Gentle Child,” Mrs Newsham ; song, “ When the Heart is Young,” Mrs Axford ; song, “ Peg Away,” Mr Jennings ; cornet duet, Messrs Donovan and Buchan ; song, “ Bide a-Wee,” Miss Butcher ; song, “ The Deathless Army,” Eev. W. C. Blair ; duet, “Tell Her I Love Her So,” Mrs Newsham and Miss Hodges ; song, Mr Hanna ; vocal quartette, “ All Among the Barley,” Mrs Brodie, Mrs Blair, Mr Payze, and Mr Eayner ; song, “ Nymphs and Shepherds,” Mrs Axford; humorous reading, “ Five Foot Nine,” Rev. W. C. Blair. Encores were demanded and responded to. The Sunday School Superintendent, Mr Wright, read out a list of pupils of the St. David’s Sunday School, who were successful at the recent examination held by the Auckland Sunday School Union, as follows : Adult Grade.—2nd Prize : Miss Carrie Gate 8.

First-Class Certificates.—Upper Intermediate Grade: Maggie Cummings, Dorothy Husband. Second-class Certificates.—Upper Intermediate Grade : A. Laura Wallace ; Lower Intermediate Grade : Eobert B. Cumming.

Primary Grade.—Chrissie White. Third-class Certificates.—Upper Junior Grade : Claude J. Lovegrove; Lower Junior Grade : Alma Wallace ; Primary Grade : Margaret Johnson.

It will thus be seen that the Te Aroha scholars have been most successful, and are to be congratulated for the work submitted.
