Waitoa Notes.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The County Council are doing some very necessary patching with fascines, etc., on No. 1 Road.

We will shortly be called upon to elect a new drainage Board. If the new members do not carry out more work than the present “conflicting parties ” it will be a bad state of affairs. It is the opinion of many that if Chairman Henry had consulted the other members more, and taken more notice of the wishes ‘of the ratepayers, he would not now be at his wit’s end to know how to get out of the present mess Where will it all end ? Echo answers where ?

Our milk suppliers all anticipate a yery good season, and some tidy cheques will be forthcoming in the near future. Our Tennis Club hold a social on Friday night. Mr J. Marshall is the hon. secretary. We are all looking forward to having a real good time. Local pugilists are practising steadily, with a view of challenging any half-a-dozen in the Piako County. Everything is working smoothdy at the flaxmill. The paddocks arb full of fibre, and an abundance of flax is coming to hand. This mill is worked on the labour-saving principle. The machinery is all up-to-dato, and does credit to the proprietors, Messrs Farrow Bros.

I can hear the “ buz ” of the sawmill some half-a-dozen miles away, and I learn the owner i.s cutting out some very fair timber.

The flood water has almost disappeared, and may (it be a long time .before we have any more “ Didos.’’ Mr Bell, who has taken over Mr Walker's farm, expects to be milking a big herd.

A number of settlers contemplate visiting the big horse show at Cami bridge this week.
