Farm Notes.
of the largest purchases of poultry ever made in New Zealand has ‘ fast been completed (says the Press) ‘ by a Dunedin firm, who hate eontraded for the coming season for the . ddifery of 2p,000 ducklings, and SOOO chickens, all to weigh 4lbseach jot over. The deal has been effected with Mr Burley, of the Avonhead ,0 farm, at Riccarton, and thp poultry will be packed and graded at the Government depot, Christchurch, and to the freezer for export. By proper selection and intelligent breeding the average dairy farmer can double the annual production of his cows. r?& V >*’ \/.-r •; ‘ < > Don’t forget your yearly purchase of fiharland’s Moa Brand Egg'Preservative. Eggs are now at a price which pays to preserve them. At all stores. See that the full name is on the label. A farmer in the Winchester district has been experimenting with Californian thistle (sayst the Winton Record). To destroy some patches of thistle he covered them with straw about three feet deep. This was done in the winter. The thistles in the early spring grew up through the straw, which was then turned carefully, so as not to break the thistles, and the thistles were covered again. When they came through again the straw Was once more turned. , At each turning the growth of the thistles was weaker, and after a few turnings they died. So far the experiment has been a success, and the farmer is con* fident that the thistles will not grow again.' •./ * -v - ■ When we produce a cereal crop and dispose of it, almost everything is taken away off the land, and we have to - he , continually replacing these things, while if we feed to stock, we have the most of it retiv.ned to the land. Economical Housekeepers are now preparing to put down their snppl'es ot preserved eggs. There is no preservative like Sharland’s Moa Brand Egg Preservative. None has its long history , of unqualified success—it never fails to keep fresh eggs sweet and good. At all stores. See that the ft* ll , name is on the abel. The really successful farmer is the man who understands the keeping of accounts. It is all very well to rub along with only the hank pass-book to show how he stands at the end of the financial year, but unless he keeps hooks in a systematic manner the farmer will never know whioh of the various branches of his industry are profitable or otherwise. Rotation is nature’s method of building up the soil, and we are not far from light when we practice some of nature's methods iu the manage ment of our soils. Pimples, eruptions, blotches, scales, ulcers, and eczema are r!l caused by bad blood. Chamberlain’s Stomach and Liver Tablets are wonder workers in the cure of all disorders caused by bad or impure blood. They eliminate all poisonous matter by enriching the blood and enabling it to make new and Wealthy tissues. Pure blood means perfect health, and if you will use Chamberlain’s Tablets they wi’l give you good health, and a pure clean skin 1 free from pimples and blotches. For sale by J. B. Johnson, Agent.—Adi o. We are face to face (writes Argentine correspondent of the Fastoralists’ Review) with one of the worst winters yet experienced, and, without wishing to he unduly alarming one cannot hut anticipate very unsatisfactory times ahead for the next year. The agricultural outlook is decidedly poor: Ploughing and sowing are all behind almost on every hand. Officially, the situation is not viewed with very great anxiety, hut it is easy to understand that Government would quite naturally do everything possible to prevent unduly alarmist reports getting abroad. Mr Lahitte, Chief of the Rural Economy Office, affects to believe that so far no irreparable mischief has been done. One would he glad to he able to fall in with his views, hut unfortunately, there is such a mass of convincing evidence to the contrary, that an unbiassed and impartial mind cannot do so. To what extent the fairly general rains now reported may repair the damage done is not possible to surmise at this juncture. In another month it may he possible to arrive at a conclusion. Thousands of pounds are saved eve<3 year to the Pool try Keepers of New Zealand by the use of Sharland’s Moa’ Brand Egg Preservative. If you want to share in this, use it this year to preserve your eggs. At all stores. See that the full name is on the label.
