The Rabbit Industry.
Dunedin, September 3. The rabbit industry during the winter has been remarkable* It is estimated that between 600,000 and 700,000 skins were purchased weekly in Dunedin, and that this quantity represents monetary value close on £4OOO. For prime doa skins as much as 2/10 per pound has been paid, and there has been a slight increase in prices for lower quality of skins. This increase of price has affected prejudicially the export of l/bbits, since trappers get better prices for skins, the supply of skins has enormously increased, due more to better prices than to the increase of rabbits. It is estimated that practical rabbiters earned over £1 daily. Although the industry is a continuous one, there will now be a falling off as spring advances.
