Police Court.
(Before Captain Lyons-Montgoinery and Donald McDonald, Esq., J.’sP.) A short sitting of the Police Court took place yesterday morning, when a young man named Samuel Hamilton was charged (1) With being drunk while in charge of a horse ; (2) resisting the Police ; and (3) using obscene language within the hearing of passers - by. Accused pleaded “ Not Guilty.” Constable Mackle stated that on Tuesday afternoon his attention was directed to accused who was rolling about on a horse in a state of intoxication. He eventually fell off the horse. P. Pilkington, on being sworn in, said that he considered Hamilton drunk when he saw him.—The evidence of Pilkington was also taken in regard to the second charge. He said he saw the Constable and Hamilton struggling together, both fell on the ground. At the request of the Constable ho (witness) assisted in handcuffing accused at the back of Head’s residence. He was very violent, and kicked and attempted to bite.
The Bench convicted and fined 10s or 48 . hours on the first oharge ; for resisting the Police, one month and for using obscepe language, one month in Mt. Eden (without the option of a fine), sentences to run concurrently. Cn the application of the Police a Prohibition Order was taken out against Hamilton for 12 months.
