Local volunteers appear to be taking far more interest in their shooting and drill than has been the case heretofore. -It is indeed a healthy sign, and speaks | well for the officers in charge. *

On Saturday evening last the winner of the. Knock Belt, Trooper Davis, entertained the rest of the competitors to supper at Dierck’s Supper Booms. An enjoyable time was spent. Sergt. Lamey was in charge of the shooting at the rifle range on Saturday last.

.Trooper Horne had the honour of winning the Pilling Shield the first time it was fired for —12 months ago—not Sergt. Maingay as erroneously reported the other day. Sergt. Maingay is the present holder of this muchcoveted trophy. e
