Wedding

CONNING—COOPER.

A wedding that created a good deal of local interest was solemnised at Waibeu on Wednesday last by the Rev. W. C. Blair, of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Te Aroha. The contracting parties for nuptial ties were William Conning and Miss Jessie Cooper, third daughter of Mr H. C. Cooper. The bride looked very becoming, dressed in white figured voile; Miss Leila Cooper aud Miss Belle Conning officiated as bridesmaids. The bridegroom was ably attended by Mr Bartles, while Mr L: Conning carried out the duties of groomsman A sumptuous wedding breakfast was tastefully laid out in a spacious marquee. The tables were deoorated in a manner that left nothing to be desired, and the good things were of a most recherche order. The wedding cake, a three-decker, was indeed a work of art, and it was as rich as it looked, and did credit to Mr Kiinber, baker in charge of MrH. Magill’s Waihou bakery. The tables from end to end presented a pretty picture, The customary toasts were given and responded to. That of “The Bride and Bridegroom ” was proposed by Mr 1 Driver, who made one of his telling little speeches. He referred in eulogistic terms to both Mr and Mrs Conning, whom he had known for a long time. The bridegroom suitably responded. “ The Relations aud Friends” was proposed by Mr J. B. Thomas and responded to by Mr Conning, senr., and Mr H. 0. Cooper. Mr W. R, Johnson was in his element in [proposing the toast of “ The Bridesmaids,” whioh he did in one of his humorous speeches, Mr Bartles resnonded.

The presents were numerous, costly, and useful, displaying the popularity in which Mr and Mrs Conning are held.
