Te Aroha Bridge Domain.

A SPECIAL meeting of the Te Aroha Bridge Domain Board was held on Wednesday evening, at the Council Chambers. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr B. L. Somers), Crs Rowe, Hubbard, Lyons - Montgomery, and Edwards.

The report of the Government Engineer, Mr Birks, was read and discussed in detail. The Treasurer reported there was about £8 in hand when all accounts were settled. Mr Hubbard thought that the drains, etc., should be done as soon as possible and expressed the opinion that very little could be done before Christmastime. Mr Edwards said that the present high ground should be used at once as there is plenty of room to form a sports of over an acre. It could be ploughed now, levelled and sown. He suggested that the Government should be approached with a view of getting a subsidy of pound for pound. Mr Hubbard considered that the question of drains should be first; when the river was down it would not cost more than £lO to do what was required, it would materially improve the ground below the pound paddock. The planting of native trees and shrubs could be proceeded with. As to the seats they would require to be securely fastened down, or be of iron, to prevent their being lost in time of flood. The question of the different suitable shrabs was discussed, also the getting rid of the noxious weeds. Capt. Jbyons-Montgomery was of the opinion that they should get to work as coon as possible, and endorsed Mr Edwards’ remarks.

Tbi Mayor in proposing that the meeting adjourn said the offer of the Football Club had been accepted and the Council had decided to remove the fence and attend to other matters necessary. Very little else could be done now while the river was in flood.

Mr Rowe, in seconding the proposition, said they should not delby longer than could be helped before getting to work on draining, planting, and getting rid of briars, etc.
