Police Court.
(Before Capt. Lyonsj- Montgomery and Mr Thos. Gsvin, J.’sP.) A short sitting of the Police Court was held on Tuesday morning, when a young man was charged with striking another young fellow named G. Yardley below the eye, inflicting a nasty wound. It appears accused was engaged clearing the football lines during a rscent rep. match, when some person struck the horse he was riding. Dismounting, he struck defendant, who was taken unawares, being engaged in conversation with a friend at the time. Accused pleaded guilty, and eEpresscd guilty, and expressed regret for his aeion. Defendant said ha was incapacitated .from work for three days. The Lodge paid his doctor’s expenses. Th a Bench fined accused £l—half to go to Yardley—and costs. The Bench considered the Football Club should endeavour to (have the field fenced off, and the crowd kept off the side lines altogether.
At the Police Court yesterday, before Captain Lyons-Montgomery, J.P., two young men, Stanley Cartman and C. Turner, were charged with beingj drunk in Whitaker-street; the former while in charge of a horse. The Bench said it was bad enough to get drunk, but to do so while in charge of a horse endangered the lives of the public, Accused were fined 10s and os respectively.
